Module 5 Resources

In Module 5, “Guardian of Hope: Lessons in Suicide Prevention with Sergeant Kevin Briggs,” we’ll learn from Sergeant Briggs about how you, as leaders, can save lives, one conversation at a time. How can you spot individuals at risk? How do say the right things (as opposed to the wrong things)? How can you follow up? What’s the line between what you say and do versus what a mental health professional should? These are a few of the many questions we’ll be looking into – and we’ll have Sergeant Kevin Briggs here to shed light on them through his heartfelt stories and expert advice.

Module 4 Resources

In Module 4, “Safe Harbor,” we’ll examine what’s driving the rise in despair (which in turn, is fueling the spike in rates of suicide). You’ll learn how you can respond, by tapping into the fundamentals of what all humans universally need: autonomy, sense of achievement, being connected with others and a sense of purpose. Then, we’ll go headlong into how you can promote psychological safety and awaken compassion, creating a “Safe Harbor" of emotional safety, belonging and meaning for all.

Module 3 Resources

Why does well-being matter for your team’s performance? And, why do you (as a manager) need to be leading well-being for your team? And, finally, what does it take to thrive? In Module 3, “Oasis of Well-Being,” we’ll address these three important question. You’ll learn about the multiple dimensions of well-being (it’s more than just physical!) and why it’s important to lead your team, and your company, in addressing all of these. You’ll explore the power of leading by example and talking about well-being, as well as ways to create systems that enable people to leverage existing resources.

Module 2 Resources

In Module 2, “Culture First,” we’ll take a deep dive into the role that culture plays in mental well-being at work. Just as you’ve learned with safety, it’s not enough to expect individuals to practice safety on their own. Rather, there needs to be a culture of safety. The same holds true for promoting mental well-being. In this module, we’ll outline the steps that you can take to begin building a Culture of Mental Well-Being within your team, which will positively benefit your organization. In this webinar, we will discuss the critical role that you play in creating this culture of mental well-being.

1. Trendsetters. These are the top leaders within an organization (C-suite, VPs, directors, department heads, etc.). Trendsetters set the tone across the organization, through organizational policies and allocated resources.

2.
Permission Givers. These are managers or team leaders. When it comes to day-to-day behaviors related to engagement — both with work and well-being — Permission Givers are uniquely positioned as key influencers.

Module 1 Resources

The mental health crisis is a problem we need to solve together. “Check your emotions at the door” has been a longstanding practice in most workplace cultures. It’s time for that to end. What has become exceedingly clear, especially in the natural gas transmission operating and construction industries, is that this practice is no longer working. The spike in mental health issues is a problem that is simply too big to ignore. So, how do we meaningfully tackle the taboo topic of mental health at work? It starts with you. Now is the time for every leader to step up and meet the moment. Mental health is a topic that needs to be proactively addressed across the organization and within every team — and must be fully embraced by leaders on all levels. In our Leading Mental Well-Being Series, you’ll have the chance to learn how to create mental well-being for yourself. And then more importantly, you’ll learn how to create mental well-being within your team and across the entire organization. To successfully address mental health in a way that is meaningful and sustainable, it’s important to understand the different roles we play. These roles break into four primary buckets.

1. Trendsetters. These are the top leaders within an organization (C-suite, VPs, directors, department heads, etc.). Trendsetters set the tone across the organization, through organizational policies and allocated resources.

3. Activators. These are people who have an explicit role in promoting wellness, well-being, and mental health, such as people in HR, benefits, or wellness. Activators can also be outside wellness consultants or well-being speakers.

4. Self-Starters. This is anybody and everybody who’s just trying to be a little healthier and a little happier. In the context of the workplace, Self-Starters are the employees. In life, it’s all of us.
